Opening Halloween Flash Day
The day we’d all been waiting for!
After six intense weeks of refurbishment and DIY since signing our lease, and almost losing our minds, we were so excited to finally be able to open our doors and welcome everyone to 42 Tattoo Studio. And what better way to do it, than on Halloween weekend with a themed flash day?
The space before
Our humble studio was previously a long standing hair salon, and little had changed when we got our keys. This left us with sinks to uproot, wall paper to tear down, electrics to rewire, decals to peel, windows to scrape, desks and doors to build, and hair, so very much hair to sweep.
We set about all of these tasks and more, with some help from some of our wonderful friends, whom we can’t thank enough, all the while running in circles trying to navigate the absolute maze that is obtaining various business licences in Jersey. It’s safe to say we had never been so exhausted in our lives, mentally and physically.
Thankfully, we managed to get everything done ahead of the big open day: October 28th 2023. And we are so proud of the space that we created, not only a space where we can express ourselves, but, we hope, a space where everyone feels able to express themselves too.
The Flash Day:
No rest for the wicked! After all of that DIY work, we were straight back to tattooing as usual, and what an amazing feeling! Costumes were on, stations were ready, it was finally time to get back to our real jobs after starting to wonder whether we were electricians/ painter-decorators/ web developers/ woodworkers.
We can’t thank everyone who came by, said hello, got tattoos, brought snacks, had a laugh, and partied after with us, enough. It more than made all of the hard work worth it.
We would like to give special thanks to Scott and Sophie McKenna for manning the desk, and keeping everything running smoothly; and to Martin Aubert (@ mjohnaubert on instagram) and Bevans (@ camgirlbev on instagram) for their beautiful photography work and capturing such a special day so perfectly.
We also had a fancy dress competition, where the winner stood to win one of each of our new tee shirts. This fine honour went to a lovely client Ben for his particularly convincing mask.
